Galant – Warning light on

Change ECU program and replace ETV

Description of defect

The computer (engine ECU) controlling the prime mover has an inappropriate operation program for checking the operating range of the electronically controlled throttle valve (ETV), causing the valve to hit a stopper and the magnets attached to the torque motor that adjusts the degree of opening to shift position due to the impact, If the accelerator pedal is fully opened in this condition and the engine is continuously operated for hill climbing or acceleration, the computer judges an abnormal condition and enters a fail-safe mode, where a warning light comes on and the rotation of the prime mover is restricted.

The engine may stop, but can be restarted.

Improvement details
